Bluetooth
Cambridge Consultants has been actively involved in Bluetooth® technology since the late 90’s. We have developed a fully portable upper stack for Bluetooth (BlueStack®) and a complete profile library (Interface Express™).
We created, as one of our spin-outs, the market leader in Bluetooth technology: Cambridge Silicon Radio (CSR). Because of our history, it is not surprising that Cambridge Consultants and CSR have worked closely together. We have a unique relationship with CSR that enables us to develop native software for their BlueCore family of chips. Because this software runs natively on BlueCore devices, it reduce cost by removing the need for a host processor, while maintaining exceptional performance from a low cost platform. In fact, the XAP2 processor embedded on the BlueCore devices is our own processor core. We are able to extend this capability to third parties who license our development toolkit xIDE for Interface Express.
CSR, not surprisingly, have focussed on providing excellent solutions to mainstream Bluetooth applications in order to achieve their leading position in the market. However, there are many companies that wish to produce other innovative products that take advantage of Bluetooth technology, where developing new features are an essential part of their strategy. Our in-depth understanding of the CSR Bluetooth products combined with our software capability and our general wireless expertise enables us to develop optimised solutions to novel applications that have both cost and price competitiveness while maintaining a performance edge.
The embedded applications we have developed have included:
- A low-cost Cordless Telephony Access Point reference design
- A Bluetooth meter-reading interface
- A Bluetooth-accessible memory stick, making use of BIP to transfer images from cameras etc. to the memory stick that can be read via the USB interface by most PCs.
- A low-cost Bluetooth hands free kit, where combined Hands-Free and Sync profiles exist on the BlueCore - allowing the car kit to read the phonebook and provide audio service
- A Bluetooth intercom system
- A general purpose configurable Bluetooth network node (the SP/AT™ device). This enables, via the serial port and an extended AT command set, the establishment of sophisticated functions, such as establishing audio connections between SP/ATs™ etc.
- A Bluetooth Media gateway
- A Bluetooth medical applications platform called VENA
The scope of applications that can be supported by Bluetooth is very wide. Our team working on Bluetooth projects is in-touch with the specifics of each application area. Once we understand what you wish to achieve, then we can call upon their expertise to support any discussions you may wish to have.
Whether it is to reduce the cost of an existing solution, by increasing the scope of the application implemented by the chosen BlueCore device, or to implement a new or unusual application, Cambridge Consultants is the best choice for achieving your goals.
