Implementation of key performance indicators for the Traffic Officer Service
The Traffic Officer Service was established in 2005 to work in partnership with the Police to assist road users, keep traffic moving, remove debris, set signs, and ease congestion. Since the implementation of the Traffic Officer Service, there has been both a reduction in congestion and a decrease in serious and fatal accidents, and this performance is tracked against targets using a set of key performance indicators.
Cambridge Consultants played a major role in defining and implementing the key performance indicators for the Traffic Officer Service for the 2009/10 financial year. Through wide-ranging stakeholder engagement, indicators have been aligned and refined against the strategic objectives of the service, to minimise operational impact and drive positive behaviour. A process for their future development has also been created to ensure they can evolve to meet future needs
The work has resulted in:
- A fully effective and robust set of key performance indicators for the Traffic Officer Service for the FY2009/10
- A strategic process for developing future key performance indicators
- Improved strategic alignment between the key performance indicators and the overall responsibilities of the Traffic Officer Service
- Performance measures that incentivise positive behaviour for operational staff
