Using strategic fit and market attractiveness to select devices for injection of high value drugs
Objective: To identify and select suitable injection systems for the subcutaneous delivery of high value, large volume drugs on behalf of a major pharmaceutical company.
Approach: Working with key company stakeholders we developed structured criteria to investigate and select potential devices. We used the resultant screening criteria to eliminate devices which did not meet the client’s minimum requirements, whilst ranking criteria enabled us to prioritise opportunities that had the best strategic fit and were most attractive from a market perspective. Over 300 device opportunities were investigated with 11 being prioritised for ranking.
Result: Three of the resultant devices were ranked as leading licensing and acquisition opportunities for our client.
Benefit: Our client received a full understanding of the landscape of a large number of devices with the potential for meeting its needs, plus a shortlist of three qualified devices to take forwards for negotiation and discussion with the device owners.
