Strategic appointment stands to deliver
- Cambridge Consultants recruits David Blakey to lead internationally successful Drug Delivery team.
As part of its campaign of strategic growth, Cambridge Consultants has appointed David Blakey as Head of its Drug Delivery campaign, adding strength and a good deal of experience to this strategically important area of its business.
David joins Cambridge Consultants’ Drug Delivery team during a period of significant transformation and growth in the industry. Such change is opening up many new challenges for the pharmaceutical industry to control and target drug therapies in an increasingly regulated and competitive market.
Cambridge Consultants Drug Delivery team has an established track-record for delivering world-class solutions to leading pharmaceutical and medical device companies, in order to create and maintain market leading products. Examples include insight into air-flow phenomena that led Cambridge Consultants’ scientists to create Conix, built on advanced powder dispersion technologies to deliver drug into the deep lung. Shooting Star, launched at the RDD 2008 exhibition in Arizona, demonstrates a deep understanding of statistical methods in order to extract the maximum of relevant information from complex data sets. Drawing from across a broad spectrum of skills, the Drug Delivery team operates around a set of core competencies that include inhalation, injection and coating systems, and within a quality framework adherent to FDA and EU regulatory protocols.
“Cambridge Consultants has a quite unique level of competence, including fluid dynamics and air flow modelling which, combined with a track record of reliability in engineering and a deep understanding of client needs and market requirements through user-centred design, makes for a compelling product design and development service”, comments Blakey on his appointment. “The company’s credentials in the drug delivery market are well established, and I am excited by the prospect of building on these strong foundations through strategic positioning and organic growth. I am also keen to exploit the new possibilities in advanced medical systems opened up by working in partnership with other parts of Cambridge Consultants. For example, there are fascinating opportunities to address challenges presented by a user-centred design process, from adding electronic control and monitoring to novel drug delivery devices, and I look forward to working with our wireless and ASIC-development teams to explore some of these further”.
David Ellis, Director of Cambridge Consultants’ Medical Technologies Group welcomed David to the company, adding: “We are delighted that David has joined us during such an exciting period of growth. The MedTech sector is becoming increasingly innovative in terms of the application of new technologies, and David’s experience of the drug delivery space together with his fresh perspective will enable us to remain at the leading-edge of the field”.
Prior to joining Cambridge Consultants, David spent 13 years at TTP, having joined after gaining a PhD at Grenoble, France in 1995 for his research in neutron diffraction.
