  • Cambridge Consultants opens its doors and offers tips for growth in an uncertain climate at its Innovation Day 2008 event

Cambridge Consultants today opened its doors to invited guests from the international business community, giving them the opportunity to see how the company is helping its clients thrive in a volatile business climate.  Innovation Day 2008 saw a hundred guests from more than 80 leading companies enjoy a range of keynote presentations and seminars, hosted by world-class engineers and industry leaders, and designed to provide a snap-shot of the state-of-the-art in high technology product development.

Delegates had the opportunity to interact with demonstrations of pioneering technology usually kept under lock and key.  This year, the projects on show included wireless smart meters, an implantable medical device antenna, and technology that is helping the Highways Agency create better journeys.  Cambridge Consultants’ engineers also showcased new remote access applications for the Prism200 through-wall radar, presented a scaled-up model of the innovative Conix inhaler, and demonstrated how its Holographic Radar technology could enable the UK to meet its renewable energy targets by solving the conflict between wind farms and existing radar systems.

Bertrand Piccard, President and initiator of the Solar Impulse project, shared his ambitions for flying around the world on solar power alone, updating the delegates with a keynote speech on his team’s progress to date as they develop a prototype to test the concept with planned flights in 2009.  Designed to demonstrate the importance of the new technologies in sustainable development, this project aims to inspire others through scientific adventure.  Piccard’s presentation followed an earlier keynote speech by Gill Smith, Director of Intellectual Property at Dyson Technologies Ltd, in which she provided a candid overview of how the company has protected its market from competitors, and summarised the lessons others might learn from her experiences.

Commenting on the event, Patrick Pordage, Cambridge Consultants’ Director of Marketing Communications, said: “Innovation Day always provides an exciting environment for our guests to see what’s possible at the leading edge of technology development.  Set against a backdrop of economic uncertainty, the projects on show this year demonstrate for our clients more than ever the importance of creating competitive advantage through reliable design and development and, in many cases, novel technology.”
