Cambridge Consultants and News International Announce New Information Service for Online Readers

A new information display engine developed and patented by Cambridge Consultants Limited (CCL) is to be used by News International to offer an enhanced service to online Internet readers of The Times and The Sunday Times.

The display engine was developed so that readers can skim through a newspaper on screen much as they would scan through a paper copy, thus overcoming many of the limitations inherent in providing an online information service. A mouse is used intuitively to scroll and scan through headlines and text without the need for a standard 'point and click' approach. News International and CCL are working together to make the display engine available on The Times and The Sunday Times websites in the next few months, and any user with a Java-enabled browser will be able to benefit from the new service.

"At News International we are keen to use new and innovative technology to provide the best possible service to our online users", said Richard Withey, a director of News International.

"The CCL display engine opens up tremendous opportunities for improved news delivery via the Internet. On The Times and The Sunday Times Internet we have already built a huge following, with almost 700,000 registered users, and we are constantly looking to improve the service we give them".

CCL has 30 years' experience in applying technology innovatively for emerging markets, and is working extensively in the areas of electronic commerce and online services.
