Senior Physicist/Engineer

Main purpose of the job

To provide technical leadership in multi disciplinary team settings, working on client assignments. Assignments typically involve the design of sensing systems for complex physical sensing problems, including the development of novel sensing hardware and signal processing algorithms using sophisticated mathematical techniques. The role offers many varied opportunities for the personal development of technical, leadership and commercial skills.

Type of work undertaken by the division/group

Within the Products and Systems Division resides our expertise in the fields of radar, location systems, physical sensing, advanced control and signal processing. Projects are highly varied and range from small laboratory based studies lasting a few months through to multi-million pound product developments taking a year or longer. Our customer base covers a diverse range of sectors including commercial, consumer, industrial and the public sector (both defence and non-defence).

Specific responsibilities

Scientists, physicists and engineers work on client assignments in multidisciplinary project teams, sometimes on more than one project concurrently and in different team roles. High quality work is essential from every team member. A strong desire to learn to develop and implement solutions with different technologies and for different target markets is essential.

As a senior physicist or engineer you will be expected to provide innovation and technical leadership during the complete project life cycle. During the delivery of the project you will be expected to take responsibility for the technical solution, working closely with the team as well as interfacing at a senior level within the client organisation.

As your experience develops opportunities exist to progress in a variety of directions, depending on the individual. Commercial, project management and senior technical routes are all recognised within our career development structure.
