Analogue and Power Electronics Engineer

Business Development Manager – Transport Industry

Main purpose of the job

You will work with the Commercial Director for Cambridge Consultants’ Transport Campaign. Your responsibilities will include supporting the strategic direction of the business, delivering significant personal sales, and carrying out marketing and client management activities, leading to continued growth of this major sector of our business.

Type of work undertaken by the group

Cambridge Consultants are innovators in intelligent transport system (ITS) developments, specialising in applications that function at the interface between technology and operations.  In this way, we enable our clients to resolve the challenges and demands placed on today’s transport infrastructure.

As technology experts, we have enabled our Transport industry clients to gain advantage through technology transfer from other industry sectors. Examples of our project work within the campaign are listed below:

  • We have applied decision support and sensor fusion techniques to existing data sources to provide our customers with more accurate and complete information on which to base business decisions that help keep traffic moving on our busy road networks.
  • We have used wireless communications to convert roadside data that was previously collected once a week and processed off-line into live traffic data, bringing cost and time efficiencies along the way.
  • We have undertaken a study into alternative models for control office to roadside communications, this included the consideration of a new message system that would support a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and improve system resilience. It also looked at the option of replacing some of the wired infrastructure with wireless links and the benefits of this for roll-out to new locations.
  • Specification and procurement of a new control office system to replace and integrate the functionality of the four existing systems on the operators' desks. This work included development of the architecture, the business case and delivery models.
  • We have developed change management programmes for our customers which drive efficiency savings and ensure benefit realisation within their organisations.

We combine highly creative lateral thinking with excellent technical skills and broad industry experience to form powerful development teams.  We have an unrivalled ability to relate business needs to technology solutions, at a strategic level, and provide guidance on the technology enablers that will facilitate the implementation at an operational level.
