2nd Line IT Technician

Main purpose of the job

To work as part of the 2nd Line support team within the IT Services Group, providing support across a wide range of networks, hardware and software for the whole of Cambridge Consultants.  To provide deskside support and central IT systems administration and maintenance.

Type of work undertaken by the division/group

The IT Services Group is a small team supporting a wide range of computing facilities within the company.  This includes all aspects of providing working systems for office automation and technical computing.

The IT Services Group is responsible for all systems based on 500+ desktop and laptop PC’s, and various other specialist computers such as Sun workstations/Servers. Key applications also include Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes under Windows.

The IT Services Group defines the requirements for the purchase of new equipment, manages the installation, provides help and support to users, and undertakes routine security backups of the systems.  The group is also responsible for all aspects of hardware, commonly used software, and networking.

Specific responsibilities

  • Provide 2nd Line Support to Cambridge Consultants IT Services users
  • Take responsibility for PC configuration management
  • Responsible for Microsoft Office configuration management
  • Take responsibility for part of our IT Security, including Patch Management, Virus and Malware prevention
  • Provide project support to Senior IT Technicians
  • Have responsibility for some of IT services central system admininstration tasks

Minimum requirements

  • Proven ability to implement and support Windows in a networked environment
  • Demonstrable ability to understand user needs and select suitable solutions in an IT environment
  • Willingness to support all areas of the IT services group user base as needed, is essential
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work well within a small team is essential
  • Good organisation skills and self motivated
  • A relevant recognised industry qualification, eg MCDST, MCSE, would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of LanDesk, GHOST, VMware and Adobe Products would be advantageous
