Senior Business Developer- Consumer
Main purpose of the job
As a Senior Business Developer, you will be the dynamic leader of our business development activities in the rapidly growing Health & Fitness market. Taking a leading role in our Consumer team, you will be responsible for significant personal sales, marketing strategy, client initiation and development, key client management and contract negotiation. Working alongside world class project managers and technical leads, you will also take commercial responsibility for the delivery of successful innovative projects to our clients.
Type of work undertaken by group
The Products & Systems Division specialises in the design and development of innovative products and systems, from innovation and concept feasibility through to prototype manufacture to transfer to production. The projects often incorporate considerable technical challenges.
The Division has an exciting diverse range of work and undertakes development projects in three market sectors, as well as Consumer:
- Energy & Transport – Renewables, energy metering and energy production
- Defence & Security – government and commercial
- Industrial – sensors, instrumentation and control
In the Consumer market sector we develop innovative products and technologies for a great variety of market leading household name brands, including dispense systems and packaging for FMCG and domestic appliances, Consumer Electronics, and Health & Fitness products such as those developed for the ageing population. We also work with ambitious startups.
Specific responsibilities
You will be responsible for all aspects of business development for the Consumer Health & Fitness market, working alongside other business development, project management and technical staff.
- Identify companies that are potential clients for Cambridge Consultants
- Identify sales opportunities, work with and guide our technical teams to maximize sales conversion
- Personally close substantial sales
- Develop strong commercial relationships with senior executives in client and potential client companies to enable further sales opportunities
- Actively utilise market information to guide the technical team, inform strategy, and internal investments
- Lead marketing activities in your specific area – this includes PR, social media, and events
- Interact with teams across the diverse market and technical teams not only in Products & Systems but also our Wireless and Medical Technology Divisions
You will also use your strong technical or design skills to help communicate what Cambridge Consultants can deliver to potential clients. Your background skills will also help you to make a significant contribution to the overall direction of development projects, often working on more than one concurrently.
Whilst this position is based in Cambridge, UK, there will be international travel.
Minimum requirements
Having a strong technical education including a good degree, your career will include significant experience in an R&D or design role. You will have already been successful in a business development, innovation management or NPI role creating breakthrough products and bringing them to market. You will be keen to take this experience and apply it to a wider range of companies in this emerging space, creating breakthrough products with the support of an outstanding technical team.
You will have had a successful role in either:
- an FMCG or consumer medical company, or
- a consumer electronics company developing products in this space, or
- a sports and fitness company, or
- another fee for service design and development company
Experience of high volume consumer product development in a medical or other highly regulated market would be advantageous.
