Surgical and Interventional Products - Business Development Manager
Main purpose of the job
You will lead all business development activities for Cambridge Consultants’ Surgical and Interventional Products Business. Your responsibility will be to set the strategy for the business and execute significant personal sales, marketing and client management activities that result in continued growth of this major sector of our business. Cambridge Consultants has been a world class centre of excellence for the development of breakthrough medical products and technology for both blue chip and venture backed start-up companies for many years.
Type of work undertaken by the division/group
The development of innovative healthcare devices and equipment from concept through to prototype manufacture to transfer to production. The projects often incorporate considerable technical challenge. The Medical Technology Practice undertakes development projects in the three focus areas of:
- Surgical and Interventional Products systems
- Medical diagnostics and instrumentation
- Drug Delivery Devices
We combine highly creative lateral thinking with excellent technical skills and a broad base of industry experience to form a powerful development team. Our work ranges from undertaking complete product developments to providing consulting services for our clients on their technology, strategy or development processes. The group undertakes both client funded and internally funded projects.
Specific responsibilities
You will be responsible for all aspects of Business Development for our Surgical and Interventional Products. You will:
- Identify companies that are potential clients for Cambridge Consultants
- Develop strong commercial relationships with senior executives in potential client companies
- Personally close substantial sales
- Identify global sales opportunities, work with and guide our technical teams in Boston USA and Cambridge, UK to maximize sales conversion
- Provide market information to the technical teams to support product and service development
- Interact with teams across the broad technical base of Cambridge Consultants which includes:
- Mechanical engineering
- Product design
- Software and electronics
- Informatics
- Regulatory affairs
- Manufacturing technology
- Process automation
- Life sciences
You will also use your strong technical skills to make a significant contribution to the overall direction of development projects, often working on more than one concurrently, and to participate in consultancy work within client companies.
Whilst this position is based in Boston MA, there will be international travel.
Minimum requirements
To meet the demanding requirements of this role you will be able to provide the following:
- Track record of successful Surgical and/or Interventional Products development
- Success in developing and closing business in the Surgical and Interventional Products sector with substantial contract values
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
- Minimum ten years commercial experience in surgical and medical product development, sales experience with a design and development services company or sales experience with a medical products company
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or in physical sciences required
- Up to 50% total travel (potential for which up to half foreign travel).
