Senior Commercial Business Development - Drug Delivery
Main purpose of the job
You will sell product design, development and technology consulting services to clients in the Medical Devices industry, primarily in drug delivery, medical products and devices, medical instrumentation, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Develop and maintain an awareness of emerging needs in the marketplace by becoming the internal expert on the drug delivery devices market and feeding this knowledge back to the Cambridge Consultants' technical teams to facilitate development of new services and products.
Type of work undertaken by the division/group
The Medical Technology Division in the US undertakes the development of innovative medical devices and equipment from concept, through prototype manufacture, to new product introduction, often incorporating considerable technical challenges. We undertake development projects in three principal focus areas:
- Surgical products and medical systems
- Drug delivery devices
- Connected health systems
We combine highly creative lateral thinking with excellent technical skills and broad industry experience to form powerful development teams. Our work ranges from complete product developments to providing consulting services for our clients on their technology, strategy or development processes.
The division undertakes both client funded and internally funded projects.
Specific responsibilities
- Work under guidance of US Medical Technology Leader and the Global Head of Business Development for drug delivery business
- Identify pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device companies that are potential clients for Cambridge Consultants
- Develop strong commercial relationships with C level senior executives in potential client companies
- Identify and convert sales opportunities, working with and guiding technical teams in our facilities in Boston MA USA & Cambridge UK through to sales conversion
- Develop and lead commercial initiatives, coordinating and guiding other business development, project management and technical staff
- Provide market information to the technical teams to support product and service development
- Actively participate and speak at key industry conferences and technical forums to raise awareness of Cambridge Consultants capabilities.
- Be or become recognized as a key player in the medical and drug delivery devices market representing Cambridge Consultants
- Self motivated initiative taker who is able to lead the technical teams into new business opportunity areas.
Interact with teams across the broad technical base of Cambridge Consultants at US and UK offices and laboratories, which includes:
- Mechanical engineering
- Electronics and software
- Product and industrial design
- Human factor engineering
- Informatics
- Manufacturing technology and scale up
- Process automation
- Life sciences
- Regulatory affairs
Minimum requirements
- Success and track record in developing business in the product development sector with contract values greater than $1M per annum
- Strong technical background, experienced and comfortable with selling complex technical consultancy services
- Knowledge and experience of product development in a highly regulated environment
- Knowledge of the drug delivery devices market such as inhalation, injectables and other routes of administration would be considered a distinct advantage.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills (including working across multiple sites, cultures)
- 50 to 70% travel required (including international travel)
- Minimum ten years commercial experience in medical product development, sales experience with a design and development services company or sales experience with a medical products company
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or in physical sciences required
- Master’s degree in a related field, a plus
- Eligibility to work in the US without sponsorship, highly desirable
